Who Are We?

The WSF is a not-for-profit writers' support group, organized to provide educational, networking, and marketing support for individuals interested in learning the craft and business of screenwriting.

WSF has members throughout the World. We actively network with screenwriters and entertainment industry professionals in Los Angeles, New York, and throughout the United States in an effort to provide contacts and entry points for our members.

We welcome new members, both novice writers and professionals, as well as anyone in the entertainment industry with a vested interest in nurturing the art of screenwriting.

FAQ's

Where and when does the WSF meet? Do I have to be a member to attend a meeting?

Meetings are held monthly in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For dates, times and locations click on the Meetings link. Prospective members are invited to attend one meeting free of charge to check us out. We hope that you'll consider joining WSF once you've been our guest.

I think I have a good idea for a screenplay, but I've never written anything before. Would I be able to participate in group activities?

The WSF was formed to assist anyone interested in writing screenplays. One of our goals is to provide educational opportunities for our members. If you're new to writing, you'll find many veteran screenwriters in the group who would be happy to share their knowledge. We also hold seminars on screenwriting designed to assist both new and veteran writers develop their skills. New writers are always welcome at WSF functions.

I've written a short story that I'd like to make into a short film. Can the WSF help me with this?

While the WSF critique service is used by members with completed screenplays and outlines, members do bring in other work for discussion at meetings. The group may discuss the story's potential for becoming a screenplay and may help the member work through problems that they encounter in adapting the work.

Many WSF members are also involved in the independent filmmaking community in Wisconsin and in other areas throughout the country. Most are happy to share information and advice on the production process.

I don't live in Wisconsin or in Los Angeles. Can I still join?

Absolutely. Members out of state have full access to all the benefits extended to those in Wisconsin. Through our new website, we hope to bring online meetings and seminars to members wherever they are.

How do I become a professional screenwriter?

We suggest that you check out our Helpful Resource Links for Screenwriters page and the recommended reading list. The information there should help you start your journey as a screenwriter.
